Call for Papers: Special Issue on “Trends in service chaining for GEOSS themes”
International Journal of Applied Geospatial Research (IJAGR)

The Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) is an international initiative that provides decision-support tools and operational access to Earth observation data and geospatial content, serving a wide variety of users. GEOSS will proactively link together existing and planned observation systems around the world and support the development of new systems where gaps currently exist, promoting also common technical standards in a manner that data from thousands of different instruments can be combined into coherent data sets.

Multiple and challenging research issues have to be addressed to achieve this goal, including for example: mediating among different models for representing information, developing new techniques for integrating and composing geospatial services and components, and devising innovative methods for distributed geoprocessing services that use service-oriented architectures for accessing the huge volume of sensors, satellite imagery and spatial data.

Papers of interest for this special issue should discuss different models, techniques and tools addressing the above issues to improve service chaining and integration, as well as highlight relevant practical project experiences and applications applied to Earth Observation to improve decision making in any theme of GEOSS (disasters, health, energy, climate, water, weather, ecosystems, agriculture, and biodiversity).

This special issue shall covers interdisciplinary topics among service chaining, Semantic Web, and the geospatial domain. These include, but are not limited to:

• Service integration
• Geoprocessing
• Web Services for Grids
• Services for data model integration/schema mapping
• Methodologies for scalable service chaining
• Methodologies for reusing service chains
• Frameworks for Building Web Service-Based Applications
• Service orchestration
• Semantic service chaining
• Service applications in GEOSS themes

We solicit contributions to tackle the above mentioned challenges, highlighting on novel applications in any GEOSS themes with the potential to push service chaining in practice.

Important Dates:

Manuscripts submission due: 15 November 2009
Reviews due: January 2010
Notification of conditional acceptance: February 2010
Final revised manuscript: March 2010
Final manuscripts ready for IJAGR: May 2010
Publication: January 2011

Submission procedure:

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers between 5000 and 8000 words for this special theme issue on “Trends in service chaining for GEOSS themes” on or before 15 November 2009. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at http://www.igi-global.com/development/author_info/guidelines submission.pdf. All submitted papers will be reviewed on a double-blind, peer review basis. Papers must follow APA style for reference citations.

All manuscripts should be submitted via the online submission and peer-review system at http://geoportal.dlsi.uji.es/ijagr/
